Krásne rastliny do vášho interiéru
You have probably thrown both kinds of jars. The thin one cracked on the first burn. The thick one survived – until the night it shattered on the kitchen floor. The market”s advice is that thickness is the safety spec. That is the lie: a thick jar does not buy you strength. It only changes where the glass fails.
Mylňa: viac skla, viac margo
Thick glass has two real properties: more heat capacity, and more thermal mass. The jar holds heat, stays hot, and cools slowly. That sounds protective. It is not, because glass is not a wax, and a candle”s failure point is rarely the thick base. It is the rim, the shoulder, the spot where thick meets thin, where the neck tightens, where the trapped bubble and the hairline micro-crack sit. Thickness moves the failure point. It does not remove it.
Skutočný spôsob zlyhania: gradientné napätie, nie teplo
Glass fails on delta, not temperature. It tolerates steady heat far better than it tolerates a swing. The numbers: wax poured at 185°F, room-temperature glass at about 65°F. That is a 120°F delta across the wall of the jar, and it is the number that drives the crack – not the pour temperature and not the wax brand. The thick base soaks up the most of that swing – which is exactly why the thick jar”s rim and shoulder are the first to go. A 120°F gradient is a load. You size the load, or you do not ship the jar.
Vykonaj: uzavri deltu, potom sleduj okraj
Sklo pred odliatim predhrej.
After the light, run the burn window. From minute 45 to minute 60 the wall is doing its hardest work. Check the rim every 15 minutes. If the wall temperature climbs every 15-minute mark, the wick is oversized and the problem is not the glass. If the jar pings and cracks in a single moment, that is shock – a cold surface, a draft, a draft on the shoulder. If the rim reads too hot to hold for more than a second, pull the candle. That is the line between a warm rim and a cracked one, and it is about 150°F, the point where hand pain and glass failure land together.
The spec to keep: wax at 185°F, glass preheated to 140-150°F, delta under 45°F, burn window 45-60 minutes, rim check every 15 minutes, and the rim pain line at 150°F. Thickness is not your safety margin. The gradient is. Manage the gradient and protect the rim, and the thick jar stops being a liability – it becomes the one that keeps its shape.
